- I am honored to be here with you today representing Microsoft, a traditional multinational company in many respects, with a history in China going back more than 25 years.

- Today, we are living in a very different world from when we opened our fist office in Beijing in 1992. China has developed at a remarkable pace. And, while in 1992 Microsoft was mostly interested in technology innovation for the China market, today, China has become a source of innovation that, together, we are bringing to the world.

- Traditional MNCs, in my mind, are global companies that increasingly want to come to China to do business. The policies of the Chinese government are making that easier – and so is technology. Microsoft is helping those companies come to China, with our cloud platforms and services, operated through our partner 21Vianet.

- So, my advice to the board is firstly to continue to build this summit into a major platform for dialogue between China executives of “traditional” MNCs and senior Central Government officials, so we can listen to your needs, raise concerns and provide ideas to improve the foreign investment environment.

- We are making new investments to support the successful digital transformation of the Chinese economy – at the same time protecting China’s digital security, respecting China’s digital sovereignty and continuing to help develop China’s technology ecosystem and talent.

- Our investments in talent extends from IT professionals well into the next generation. Microsoft’s YouthSpark programs give access to computer science education and builds greater diversity in the talent pipeline. We plan to train over 12,000 Chinese professionals in the field of AI, and we are adding 1,000 new positions at Microsoft China, across research, development, sales and marketing – all in Microsoft’s fiscal year 2020, which started in July.

By the end of 2018, more than 230 companies had graduated from our Beijing and Shanghai Accelerators, today representing more than RMB130.6 billion in market capitalization.
